Electronics and Communication Engineering

Department Initiatives

The department strives to establish global level tie ups for providing the students with the right opportunity and scope to explore the various levels of engineering standards. Various initiatives are being launched,

  • To encourage our students to utilize the gained fundamental knowledge of mathematics, engineering science to identify, formulate, research and solve electronics and communication engineering problems in the areas of antenna design, embedded systems, image processing, VLSI design, wireless communication systems and sensor networks.
  • To prepare graduates with a strong foundation in Engineering science and Technology with more emphasis in Electronics and Communication Engineering and its allied areas.
  • To organize the students to pursue successful career in industry and to motivate them for higher education.
  • To train the graduates to sustain as good professional, researcher and to practice them in emerging technologies through lifelong learning.
  • To impart students with ethical standards, professional excellence through effective communication skills, team work, multi disciplinary projects and social responsibility.
  • To indulge students in various forums, technical and non-technical events such as symposium, workshops and conferences.
  • To motivate students to take up industry based project & in-house projects.
  • To emphasize the students to take up Quality Improvement Programs (QIP), FDPs, attending conferences, workshops and seminars.
  • To ensure good Placement Opportunities in well established organizations and MNCs.
  • To fetch the best possible internship programs to experience the practical and analytical skills and to understand its application in the real time scenarios.

Value Added Course

Value added course is a skill oriented technical training that helps students to expand the ability in their chosen field of study. These courses aim at facilitating the students as well as the faculty with the additional awareness & knowledge to keep pace with the latest technologies pertaining to their chosen field of studies. We at SMK FOMRA emphasize these trainings for our students to make them understand the various levels of industry expectations and bring out their inter-disciplinary skills.

Course Name: PCB Design

The Printed Circuit Board (PCB) is a very important base product in all the electronic gadgets, which are used either for domestic use, or for industrial purpose. PCB design services are used to design electronic circuits and are the primary component in all the electronic devices, including the cell phones, computers and laptops Manual layouts are created with the help of CAD drafting, and the automatic router helps in the creation of the designs automatically. The designers usually prefer the manual way of designs, since the design cold be auto customized with respect to the users need & applications.

With the increase in demand, the number of PCB services is on the rise. Students are exposed to various PCB design techniques & methodologies like PCB editor, the design capture technology, an interactive router, a constraint manager, interfaces for manufacturing CAD, and the component tools. The PCB editor edits the layers in the PCB, both single and multilayered. Both two dimensional and three dimensional rendering of the image are possible. 3D rendering is preferred, since it is possible to analyze both the inner and outer designs vividly.

Why PCB Designing?

Circuit board design teaches students to pay attention to the overlookable parts of their work. The compact yet simultaneously complex nature of PCBs teaches future engineers to think small to solve complex issues. Designing a PCB provides a variety of practical lessons that students will need to learn before they tackle more complicated fields of study. From understanding how different components work together to the importance of proper planning, circuit board design can teach valuable engineering skills. Circuit board design can provide a space for students to learn how to use these tools.PCB design isn't hazardous, so students can learn to use the tools of the trade in a safe environment. It allows young future engineers to get used to equipment like soldering irons and electronic test equipment virtually risk-free. Our students when learn PCB design in the early stages of their education, it will actually provide us with a robust set of skills to help them as they grow into future Engineers.

Technical Events

  • Practice Schools
  • IBM Courses
  • Intensive Campus Recruitment Trainings
  • Workshops
  • Guest Lectures
  • Seminars
  • Technical Symposiums & Conferences
  • Internships

Competition Based Learning

Competition based learning is a learning strategy which is initiated by hosting relevant competitions, irrespective to the learning result. This gives more self confidence to students in taking up these competitions in terms of external, internal paper presentations, Technical tournaments, classroom competitions & technical quizzes etc. This scheme widely encourages students to outperform their counterparts enthusiastically and involve themselves in group activities, thereby promoting team spirit an understanding for the complex theories in a much simpler manner.

Industry Collaboration

To Develop Industry Institute Interaction, the following steps have been taken

  • Signed MOU with SUTHERLAND GLOBAL SERVICES to train faculty members to train students
  • Signed M.O.U with Banyan Technologies for offering technological courses & placement assistance
  • Formed Business Line club with The Hindu

With massive innovations and rapid changes in industrial & technical evolution, it is only evident that the engineering students should be given an extensive foresight regarding the current economy and the versatile role of industrial contributions in bringing about a revolutionary impact over the current engineering market. The need of the hour would be therefore to bridge the gap between the industry and the technical institutions for achieving a collaborative and strategic partnerships thereby establishing an elaborate understanding of the current scenario and enabling the students to assimilate the required skills and contribute in economic and social development at large.

The institution has signed various "Memorandum of understanding" (MOU's) with reputed industries for offering internships and inplant trainings to the students. The following MOU's have been instigated in the academic year 2019-20 periods.

  • Signed MOU with SUTHERLAND GLOBAL SERVICES to train faculty members to train students
  • Signed M.O.U with Banyan Technologies for offering technological courses & placement assistance
  • Formed Business Line club with The Hindu
  • An MOU was signed on behalf of Computer science & Engineering department and the Centre of Excellence with "CONVERGY IT & SOLUTIONS", Chennai for a period of 3 years. The firm assured that it would provide assistance in trainings and implementing state-of art technology projects at SMK FOMRA and would provide the necessary skills, expertise required to carry out various other technical requirements.
  • An MOU was signed on behalf of SMK FOMRA institute of technology with "Livewire". The objective is to conduct a Unique step by step systematic and employable skill development program for the students of SMKFIT towards achieving the objective of maximizing employable opportunities and understanding the gist of industrial outgrowth.
  • An MOU was signed on behalf of Civil Engineering department and the Centre of Excellence with "De Novo Software Solutions" a unit of PGN Groups for a period of 3 years. The objective is to promote industry academic relationship for mutual benefits and exchange of views on engineering and technological issues of common concern, thereby synthesizing appropriate solutions for the same.
  • An MOU was signed on behalf of Mechanical Engineering department and the Centre of Excellence with "Ceramic Pro India" which is a leading firm in Nano ceramic coating for automobiles and industrial products. The firm offers implant trainings and paid internships to students offering them a real time working experience in automobile sectors.

Higher Education at FOMRA

  • Higher education is considered as a refined form of expanded technical study. We at FOMRA value it more than considering it as a mere optional stage of the formal learning. The institution offers various post graduate courses for stipulated engineering departments. Students are also encouraged to take up higher studies at abroad, for intensifying their subject knowledge and career growth to a prodigious level.
  • The bureau of higher education of SMK FOMRA Institute of technology caters to the need of students willing to peruse higher studies in reputed abroad academies and also to appear for various competitive exams like GRE, TOFEL, GMAT, GATE, IAS & IES etc.
  • The institution inculcates the values of higher education in students through numerous workshops and guest lecturers conducted by various trainings firms. Students are made aware regarding various schemes, procedures and importance of pursuing higher education.
  • An institutional level workshop was organized during the year 2019, by IMI (International Management Institute, New Delhi), for creating an awareness regarding the fundamentals of  CAT preparation and various techniques adopted for clearing MBA CAT exams. Frequent interaction sessions are also arranged with independent I.T consultants for the students to understand the market scenario and acclimatize themselves for a right domain in pursuing Higher education.
