Electronics and Communication Engineering

Laboratory

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is housed with a well planned block, accommodating well equipped laboratories required for the curriculum. The major labs are for Manufacturing Technology, CAD, Fluid Mechanics and Machinery, Strength of Materials, Thermal Engineering, CAD/CAM, Metrology and Measurements, Dynamics and Mechatronics.

ENGINEERING PRACTICE LABORATORY

Students at the practice laboratory are provided with the mechanical experiments where they learn basic carpeting, smithy, plumping and welding operations. The basic mechanical works and electrical activities are given importance since these sessions prove to be the foundation for understanding the importance of basic mechanical works on engineering fields gives way in understanding the core concepts which they would be learning in their upcoming semester of their 4  years curriculum.

MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY

Students learn the fine art of manufacturing a product in these Manufacturing Technology Laboratory I & Manufacturing Technology Laboratory II. In this lab they experiment with manufacturing machines like Lathe, Milling machine, Shaping Machine, Grinding machine and Hobbing machine. All the operations related to these machines will be done as practical exercise by students.

STRENGTH OF MATERIALS LABORATORY

Students conduct experiments on metals and wood to find the tension, compression, impact and stain based properties in “strength of material Laboratory”. They also find out various types of beam deflections methodology and experiment on Machines like Universal testing machine, Izod, Charpy testing machines which is basically used to measure those properties of materials.

FLUID MECHANICS AND MACHINERY LABORATORY

Students will study this lab during their fourth semester. They will conduct various experiments in specially made testing rigs equipped with pumps and turbines. They will find the various losses related to fluid flow, various pump characteristic curves, Various turbine characteristic curves and change of fluid flow with different orifices.

KINEMATICS AND DYNAMICS LABORATORY

This lab is basically about the study on various gear parameters of different gears and the Kinematics of different mechanism and its links. Students tend to analyze the Vibration testing on different beams, springs, Torsion analysis on rods and various properties of Governors in this corresponding laboratory.

THERMAL ENGINEERING LABORATORY

Thermal Engineering encompasses specially made rigs for the study of various heat losses, heat exchange, boiler operations, and thermal conductivity of various setups by students. Students also are given an opportunity to study about various performance analyses on different machinery engines and its spares for a better understanding of its assembly and refurbishing mechanism in this laboratory.

METROLOGY AND MEASUREMENTS LABORATORY

In this lab students learn to Calibrate and comprehend  the uses of measuring instruments like Vernier calliper, micrometer, Vernier height gauge, depth micrometer, bore gauge, telescopic gauge, Comparators, bevel protractor and sine bar, Screw thread Micrometers, disc micrometers, gear tooth Vernier calliper, Coordinate Measuring Machine   (CMM). Using these devices they measure the linear dimensions, angular dimensions and special dimensions of various engineering machineries & tools.

CAD/CAM LABORATORY

In this lab students learn to use computer aided mechanical oriented software’s and computer aided manufacturing. Gradually from third semester they learn about 2D drawing, 3D dimension drawing and various analyses tools. Pro-E and Solid works software are used to teach drawings while ANSYS software is used for analysis. Computer aided manufacturing is taught using CNC Milling machine and CNC Turning machine.

MECHATRONICS LABORATORY

In this lab with the help of specially made experimental setups, students learn about the various pneumatic devices and their properties. They also learn about microcontrollers and servo motors in this lab. Fluid simulation software is used to teach students about various electrical and electronic circuits.
